I Find a New Home
I shivered as the cold wind cut through my tiny body. I approached the plain grey house across the street. I went up to the front porch and meowed as loud as my little voice could manage. I'd meowed at other days on other cold nights with no luck. But the night was the coldest this week and my stomach felt painfully hollow. The door swung open. A woman in baggy shorts and sweatshirt opened the door. I ran back to the car across the street, once again crouching under its dark shadow. She called out to me and shivered. Then she closed the door and disapeared. I continued meowing, once again working my way up to the porch. The woman came out again, this time in jeans and black boots. She saw me near the trash can. Her voice was soft. I let her scoop me up and carry me into the house. I kept meowing, trying to tell her I was hungry. She gave me some spam. Yum! I'd found a home.

How to Baby a Kitten
Based on a six week kitten:
- Feed the kitten a mixture of dry food and wet food. I fed my little orphan kitty a mixture of dry food, wet food, and canned tuna.
- Place the kitten in the littler box every two hours. Dig a little with your fingers. Kittens generally pee about twenty minutes after drinking, so keep this in mind.
- Keep the toys simple and small.

A Note From Mama
I used to be a person who didn't believe in Mother Fate. The thing is I lost my religion and at the same time some of the beauty found in day to day life. I'm not saying blind belief in God is helpful. Blind faith can have some terrible consequences. But turning life into a series of random events with no rhyme or reason didn't help me. In fact it sucked some of the wonder out of life. That's why I can't be thankful enough for my little kitty cat. When I think about it, Mother Fate gently nudged me towards my current home. If the house had been empty, if I hadn't been here, the kitty would never have survived this winter. And I would have missed out on watching her do acrobatic back flips and feeling her nuzzle my neck. I would have missed out on a little piece of joy. And my former pessimistic attitude would have been too cold to see the joy in this simple event.
There's a very strong and misguided belief bouncing around and it's destructive. We tend to believe a huge, flashy event is needed to bring us happiness - a perfect face, being on TV, winning first place. But what if the small things are just passing us by? What if happiness is a kitten curled up in our lap? What if Mother Fate is begging to give us everything good in life? But we too busy looking for the next big thing to hear her? What if we're just a kitten away from loving ourselves?
